Market Share Calculator
Your market share is your place in your market’s sales. Next to the leader’s, it shows the road left, and the tool works out the sales you need for the share you are aiming for.
Market share is the percentage of total sales a company makes in a given market: its sales divided by the market’s, multiplied by 100. The company with the largest share is the market leader, and relative share compares your sales with theirs.

How market share is calculated
Market share = Your sales ÷ Market sales × 100 Relative share = Your sales ÷ Leader’s sales
2 million euros of sales in a 25 million market give an 8 % market share. Against a leader at 6 million, your relative share is 0.33: they sell three times more than you. Aiming for 10 % takes 2.5 million in sales, 500,000 € more.
The calculation is the same in euros or in units, on one condition: your sales and the market’s in the same unit, over the same period. Market share is also what compares with your advertising share of voice, to see whether you are investing to grow.
What the calculation lets you do
- Set a growth target in sales, from a target market share.
- Track your position year on year, against the market and against the leader.
